7 Black Owned Skincare Brands to try this Year

I don’t know about you, but when I can find beauty brands from black owned businesses I get excited! While I was doing my research there are a TON of beauty brands that are doing amazing things for melanin skin like using clean ingredients, sourcing from reputable places and science.

I’ve found a few beauty brands that I will definitely be adding to my skin care regimen. Here are 7 black owned skincare brands to try this year!

1. Hyper Skin

Hyper Skin celebrates black and brown skin needs as well as every skin tone. I love how they are vegan, use clean natural ingredients and avoids parabens, sulfates and phthalates. The founder of Hyper had her own personal battle of acne and dark spots as a teenager. Thus she created this brand to bring awareness in today’s modern skincare for black and brown skin.

2. Epara

Using organic ingredients from Africa, Epara means “to cocoon oneself” a dialect of Ebira in Nigeria. Epara is luxury skincare for women of colour. You will find cleansers, moisturizers, masks, serums and more. Founder and CEO Ozohu Adoh realized that women of colour were under served in the skin care community. She needed to create a skincare line that would create a solution for dry and uneven skin tone.

6. UnsunSunscreen

Katonya Breaux founded Unsun and noticed the lack of available sunscreen products that weren’t harmful to the body. She provides great sunscreen info on her website and the conclusion is that no matter what, you need to wear sunscreen! Melanin skin needs it regardless and her sunscreen is mineral based which means you can go outside right away instead of waiting on the 20 minute chemical based sunscreen.

Try their popular mineral tinted face sunscreen in medium dark. (there is another tinted sunscreen for lighter tones)

7. 54 thrones

I want to try everything! Founder Christina Tegbe was inspired by her childhood memories of receiving butters from Nigeria and created this brand to spread clean beauty. They have a lot of best sellers ranging from butters, body oils, body masks and more.
